This question is answered in God’s revelation of truth - the Bible: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). To believe means to trust or put faith in. Personal trust in the Lord Jesus Christ eternally saves the soul. This belief is not just knowledge in one’s head, but faith in one’s heart: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10).

What is your answer to the following questions?

Do you believe that the Bible is the Word of God? “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Do you believe that you are a sinner by nature and by practice? “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10); and we “must be born again” (John 3:7).

Do you believe that God loved you and gave His Son for you? “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Do you believe that “Christ died for our sins” (1 Corinthians 15:3)?

Do you believe that Christ “was buried, and. that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:4)?

Do you believe that you must repent of your sin? “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19).

Do you believe that “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin” (I John 1:7)?

Do you believe that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ gives eternal life? “He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life” (John 5:24).

Do you believe that all who reject Christ and His atoning sacrifice on the cross, will receive everlasting punishment? “But the fearful, and unbelieving. . . and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).

If you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved forever. You cannot lose your salvation. His promise in John 10:28 is “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish.”
