Religious boredom

MANY PEOPLE TODAY SEEM TO BE ECHOING IN THEIR HEARTS THE WORDS SPOKEN BY THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL REGARDING GOD’S REQUIREMENTS FOR HIS WORSHIP, “BEHOLD WHAT A WEARINESS IS IT” (MALACHI 1:13).

These were people whom God would have loved to bless, but who had despised His claim upon them. e outward signs of worship had become a ‘bore’ and a ‘burden’ to them. If this describes your attitude I would like to share a few facts with you that will change your perspective if you receive them as from the Lord.

I cannot describe to you the glory and honour the Lord Jesus Christ enjoyed with His Father in Heaven before He le all that to come down to this sordid world of sin and suffering. He knew full well all that would take place. e prophet Isaiah foretold this in Isaiah 50:6, “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked o the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.” is was the Son of God, co-creator of the universe, worshipped by angels, feared by demons — and the Lover of your soul! He suffered inexpressible agony on the cross and shed His blood to save you from the penalty and power of sin in your life. He endured the ultimate in suffering when a Holy God had to turn His back on Him as He became your Sin-Bearer, and the bearer of your punishment (Isaiah 53:5,6). God showed His satisfaction with Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf when He raised Him from the dead and took Him back to Heaven.

Some day, this same Jesus is coming back in the clouds to take all who trust Him home to Heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18). So, you have a choice! You can either yield to Christ by accepting Him as your Saviour and the Lord of all your decisions and details of your life – or you can yield to Satan, who is the author of your rebellious thoughts and discontent. For the person who yields to Christ, He gives a joy and peace that is not dependent on circumstances, but on the degree to which you will trust and obey Him. No more ‘religious boredom,’ but a wonderful living relationship, with meaning and purpose.

Far from being a ‘bore and a burden,’ the life lived in trusting obedience to Christ is exciting and awe-inspiring, as we experience the wonderful way that God works in our lives for our good! Accept Him now as Lord and Saviour and you will find Him a True Friend throughout your life.
